Where No Man Has Gone Before!

The morning after my encounter with the fish & our stay in the Blue Trout Hotel, we checked back with the National Guard up the road & were told the road was still blocked from the mudslide. Chris asked if we should go the LONG journey back to Mérida & then on to Barquisimeto or if there was another route. They all said that we should go in a different direction. It would mean climbing this giant mountain. They just warned that we should have 4 wheel drive & a full tank of gas! (sounds exciting huh?) Well, we figured we were in for an adventure. We drove for awhile asking along the way if we were heading in the right direction for Las Mesitas. Everyone would look at us strangely & point up telling us to keep climbing always going to the right. The further we went, the less civilization there was. The roads were crazy & the holes were unbelievable. We drove about 5 hours in 4 wheel drive the entire time. After almost 4 hours we had only been 18 miles. If we passed people, they all stared at us because they are not use to seeing cars up there, especially with lots of people in them. Much of this area is used for farming & raising cattle. Cows & goats roamed freely all over the mountains. One man had 2 cows yoked together to plow his field. It was an amazing experience for us & for our boys. The view was breathtaking. Once we finally got through the mountain & back to civilization... we arrived home that evening after 9 hours of travel.

We were a little aggravated at the extended trip, but God knows exactly where we are & what we need. We were able to have a new experience & were blessed to have been in a truck that was made to tackle such an adventure. Daily, we are grateful to Speed the Light & for those that have given to this great cause. Because of STL, people are receiving the Gospel & missionaries are able to travel much safer with their families.
