This Christmas will be out first one away from home. We have been living overseas for 3 years & somehow ended up in NC the past 2 Christmases because of meetings or re-packing,etc. But this year is different.
I decided that we should embrace the time with new activities as well as not forget some of the normal things that we always enjoyed. I will admit that mentally it just seems weird for us Carolina folks to be thinking Christmas in the midst of hot weather, but we will press on... we will defy the odds... we will survive! (Okay, enough of the pep talk)
We have been watching our fair share of Christmas movies, making cookies, enjoying lights, & making lists for Santa just as we would every year. We have special parties & meeting planned & malls are decorated with ribbons & lights. I know that this year we will miss our family.... but I am sure that the memories we make here in Venezuela will be long lasting for our children as well.
It's funny how our perspective changes when life throws in a little twist. But I am thankful that even in the twists & turns, God is still right beside us. He remains consistent, even when everything else changes. What a blessing that He sent His son, Jesus, to be our savior. How amazing to be able to celebrate the birth of our savior in the place where he has called our family to make a difference.
Yes, I am sure it will be a fabulous Christmas!
