Show Me the Money!

We have been homeschooling for sometime now.  Some days feel very traditional & other days feel as far from traditional as possible! The best made plans often fall through & spur of the moment ideas seem to end up being the best.  The boys had a fascination this past friday with money & counting, etc.  I decided to send them upstairs with small post-it notes to label lots of their stuff with prices.  I told them that when their Daddy got home, we would use their fake money to buy their stuff & they could give us change & add up our purchases, etc.  They worked for some time in their bedrooms sorting & pricing.  They made a place for their "cash registers" too.  They decided the store should be called Walmart because there is no other store that compares to them, except maybe Dollar Tree! Neither of these stores are in Venezuela.  Imanuel was excited to shop in "Walmart", even if it was pretend.
When Chris came home we shopped & played for quite some time.  It was quite the experience & I think the boys enjoyed themselves.  At least it made counting money fun!  I was quite intrigued at each boy's strategy to pricing.  Isaiah labeled every item very carefully trying to choose the best price possible! (That would be my way of doing it!)  Ian on the other hand had things in drawers.  Each item in one tray was a specific amount... or you could just buy EVERYTHING in the closet for only $1000.00 !  Chris would have used this approach to selling.  It is always so fascinating to see traits in your children that you know are your own.  I am sure this is one of those experiences that will stay in their minds for quite some time... I know it will mine!
